Stonehurst, as a musical entity, rose from the ashes of adolescent rock band ‘Superhuman’.
Axe-handlers Tim Hunt and Braden Southee left no stone unturned when it came to magnetizing their accumulative sound. A few chest hairs and musical growth later, Tim’s older brother David was summoned on the bass, while Ben McGallivray was invited to join on the drums to complete the ideal rhythm section. More recently, Jay Arthur was asked to join on keys which elevates Stonehurst’s sound to a whole other dimension. The perfect ratio was found, and as a harmonious five-piece, Stonehurst have been thriving and carving their way throughout New Zealand’s music scene with a torrent of heavy, hard-hitting guitar riffs and mind-melting solos which they have become so well known for.
Tim’s vocals are reminiscent of classic Rock’n’Roll legends wherein the raw and brutal punch of his voice is characterised by perfect control and an impressive range, complimented brilliantly by the his driving, often distorted, rhythm guitar. With Jay on keys an element of difference has been injected into Stonehurst’s sound, where Braden’s ability to shred up the fretboard with intricate and unstoppable guitar solos captivates audiences and sets this band apart. Along with this, Ben and David both have an unrelenting energy and play with an intensity which compliments the writing style as well as being an integral part of the backbone of this unstoppable hit factory.
Having featured in the Christchurch Chart Disc’s ‘Hard ‘n’ Heavy’ compilation to an incredible reception, Stonehurst has since released their full 10 track self-titled debut album which was produced and engineered by Thom O’Connor at Quicksand Studios. It was then mixed and mastered at Whitebait Studios by David Cooper. This led Stonehurst on a successful tour of NZ to promote their self-titled masterpiece.
Following the success of their debut album, this five-piece riff-machine have enlisted the help of independent management, and are focusing on touring, recording, and writing new material. Their live show involves a full lighting display with projectors for visuals where accommodated.
‘Step Outside’ is due to be released before the end of 2016 with an accompanying music video which is highly anticipated by fans of Stonehurst throughout New Zealand and online.
